Curium Solutions – Simplified Change Management, Birmingham, West Midlands

Kathy Coleman

Director of Capability Development

What do you do at Curium?

I joined Curium so I could really combine my passion for delivering transformational change and my life-long pursuit of understanding mindset and behaviour to try and make life easier for myself and others. My role in Curium is to help grow and develop our learning and performance business so that we can add value to organisations by making change simpler, easier and less painful for people who are going through it.

What do you enjoy about working at Curium?

I love that the people in Curium live our values every day and in every interaction both with each other and with clients. I have worked in some pretty big organisations where values were proudly displayed on the office walls but then day to day behaviour just doesn’t align. I feel like I have always been searching for an organisation that really understood and respected what it means to lead and support people through change rather than just paying lip-service – Curium is absolutely that organisation. I also enjoy the balance of autonomy and support – if you have an idea then you are encouraged to pursue it and the whole team gets behind you to ensure it is a success.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

Food, food sourcing and nutrition really interest me. I love to cook and share food with friends over a leisurely lunch or dinner but more and more I am concerned about where food comes from. Wherever I travel I always seek out artisan makers, suppliers and farmers; I love to understand how they produce their product and how they take it to market. Fortunately my husband is also interested as touring cheese makers, charcuterie producers, local markets and farms isn’t everyone’s idea of fun. Conversely I am also interested in helping people understand what isn’t real food and the harm this can do to our health – way, way too much of our food isn’t recognisable as anything other than a list of chemical compounds and our busy lifestyles mean we turn to that more and more which is so damaging to our health.

What has made you proud in the last year?

For the last 2 years I have been working with a well-known retailer running their portfolio of projects and programmes and leading their change delivery team. It always makes me proud when I see Project Managers who are hesitant at first really blossom with some support and coaching and ultimately manage their stakeholders, their teams and their deliverables superbly. I like to think that I may have played a small part in their development and success!

On a personal note I spent a couple of days this summer at River Cottage (of Channel 4 TV fame) learning how to cure and preserve meat. My first home-cured, completely free of preservatives, bacon and salami made me very proud (and tasted amazing) and I continue to dream of setting up my own food company at some point in the future.
